Candy Coal

Candy Coal

1 3/4 cups sugar
3/8 cup corn syrup
3/8 cup water
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp Black gel food colour
1/2 tsp extract/flavouring/oil (optional)*

Line a 9x7 baking pan with parchment paper.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, bring sugar, corn syrup, and water to a boil. Once at a boil, stop stirring and allow mixture to boil until it registers 300°F on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and immediately stir in baking soda until incorporated. Then stir in food colour and extract until well-combined. Pour mixture into parchment lined pan and allow mixture to cool to room temperature. Remove candy from pan and break into coal shaped pieces.
Give to all those on your naughty list.

*Any kind of extract/flavouring/oil can be used, such as cinnamon, peppermint, and anise. If using Lorann Extra-Strength Candy Flavours/Oils, only use 1/8 tsp or to taste.
